Fort Hunt Rugby will be marching in the Scottish Walk Parade on Saturday, 4 Dec.
The Scottish Walk is one of the most popular events of the holiday season. The parade winds through historic Old Town Alexandria, which is beautifully decorated every December. The parade consists of many Scottish clans and pipe bands; Alexandria Rugby has marched over the last several years due to our relationship with Alexandria's sister city, Dundee Scotland.
We've learned over the years that the best way to highlight Rugby is to march with as many ruggers and friends as possible. A large group shows the crowd that the sport of rugby is growing throughout the metro area and is here to stay. We hope to have a large group of players and supporters from our youth and adult teams and would like to invite all rugby players and fans to join us. A combination of the younger and older players is a great way to show the crowd what we're all about (the kids do some passing drills and the older players do line-outs and run around showing the crowd what the game looks like in action).
Here are the plans for the day:
10:00 am - Assemble at Lyles Crouch Elementary (530 South St Asaph Street, Alexandria VA 22314) in Old Town Alexandria. Bring your favorite breakfast food/drink the share if you wish, and yes there are bathrooms available in the school.
11:00 am - Parade starts. We will have rugby balls to play catch with and show off line-out and/or scrum skills for the crowd. We also have a large box of candy to distribute.
11:30 - 12:00 - Meet at O'Connell's restaurant (109 King St) for post parade lunch.
Dress warmly, wear your Fort Hunt Rugby gear and/or holiday-themed clothing, and join us for what is always a great day.
