George Washington's Whiskey Goes on Sale This Weekend

Mount Vernon will be selling George Washington’s Straight Rye Whiskey® on Friday and Saturday. A limited number of bottles will be available each day. The whiskey was made according to Washington’s original recipe then aged on site in oak barrels for two years.

George Washington’s Straight Rye Whiskey is made according to Washington’s original recipe and then aged on-site in charred oak barrels for two years, according to Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon’s staff produced the whiskey based on traditional 18th-century methods.

In 1799, the year of Washington’s death, the Mount Vernon distillery produced nearly 11,000 gallons, making it the largest whiskey distillery in America at the time.

Important details about the sale

• All whiskey purchases must be made in person with a valid photo ID. Must be 21 years or older. No exceptions.
• Line Vouchers Available July 3 at 8 a.m. Each of our two sale locations will be handing out line vouchers to those who arrive prior to our sale. Once you have a voucher you may return anytime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Gristmill Shop and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at The Shops at Mount Vernon on July 3 to purchase a guaranteed bottle. There will be approximately 100 bottles for sale at each location. Each person may request up to three vouchers.
• July 4 sale: There will be no vouchers on July 4. Sale starts at 10 a.m. on a first come, first served basis. There will be 150 bottles for sale at each location plus bottles unsold from July 3.
• On sale at The Shops at Mount Vernon and the Gristmill Shop.
• Whiskey Purchase Hours for the Shops at Mount Vernon: Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sunday, 1 - 6 p.m. Whiskey Purchase Hours for the Gristmill Shop: Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday, 1 - 5 p.m.
• You may access The Shops (in the Mount Vernon Inn Complex) and Gristmill Shop without an admission ticket. Parking is free.
• Virginia ABC law prevents Mount Vernon from shipping whiskey purchases, nor can we accept checks for, or discount whiskey.
