Donald Trump to Make First Campaign Appearance in Virginia

GOP presidential primary frontrunner will be speaking to supporters Wednesday night in Richmond.

GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, the current Republican frontrunner, will be making his first campaign appearance in Virginia Wednesday night.

The New York billionaire real estate tycoon will be speaking to supporters at a campaign rally Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. in Richmond.

Trump’s appearance will be coming on the heels of Tuesday night’s Democratic presidential candidate debate. Trump announced on Twitter that he plans to post his reactions to the debate live on Twitter and on Facebook. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton welcomed his participation:

The campaign rally Wednesday night also comes on the heels of an announcement Tuesday that Trump will host Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7:


Doors for the Trump rally will open at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the venue, the Richmond International Raceway, at 600 E. Laburnum Ave. in Richmond.

A poll released Monday by Christopher Newport University shows Trump has support in Virginia, leading the crowded field with 23 percent. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson picks up 17 percent, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) with 14 percent and former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina at 13 percent. Fiorina lives in Northern Virginia’s Mason Neck. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush comes in with 9 percent in the survey.

The Republican primary in Virginia is March 1.

An earlier rally for Trump, scheduled in Virginia Beach, was cancelled due to threatening weather.

Trump has several business ties to Virginia, including owning a winery in Charlottesville and a golf course in Sterling. Trump is also building a hotel in Washington, D.C.
