Grocery Run Becomes Grand Prize Lottery Win In Groveton

The woman didn't win a money prize when she scratched her ticket. In fact, she won the grand prize: a spin on the lottery's Big Wheel.

GROVETON, VA—A trip to the grocery store in Groveton turned into a grand prize for one woman, according to the Virginia lottery.

When Vanessa Ward picked up cabbage for her dad at the 6800 Richmond Highway Giant Food, she also bought a scratch ticket. The WIN A SPIN ticket didn't show a money prize when she scratched it at home. It was something better.

Ward won a spin on the Virginia Lottery's Big Wheel, the ticket's grand prize. She had the chance to win anything between $100,000 and $500,000.
