Groveton Fire Brings Severe Damages, No Injuries

The accidental fire in an attic caused an estimated $260K in damages.

A fire at a Groveton home resulted in significant damages but no injuries, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Around 8:43 p.m., Fairfax County and Alexandria units responded to a house fire in the 6900 block of Vantage Drive. Firefighters found fire showing from the roof line and first floor of the one-story home, quickly traced it to the attic space and extinguished it.

Two residents were home when the fire broke out. One of the residents found it and called 911. The smoke alarms were working, but alarms sounded after residents evacuated due to the location of the fire.

Fire investigators say electrical wiring supplying a ceiling light fixture in a bedroom started the fire accidentally. The two residents were displaced from the home, which has initial damage estimates of $260,038. Red Cross services were declined.
