Handicapped Woman Struck In Hit-And Run: Police

A woman in a wheelchair went to the hospital after being hit in a Walmart parking lot near Mount Vernon.

MOUNT VERNON, VA—A woman is facing charges after hitting a person in a wheelchair and fleeing the scene at a Hybla Valley Walmart (7910 Richmond Highway) Saturday.

Around 4:16 p.m., the victim in the wheelchair was hit by a car in the grass near the parking lot. The driver initially exited her car but got back in and drove away.

The victim went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

But the driver didn't get away, because others had witnessed the accident. Fairfax County Police were able to locate the driver nearby.

Sonja Reid, 49, of Alexandria was arrested and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. She was charged with hit and run, driving while intoxicated, driving on a revoked license and several other drug-related offenses.
