MOUNT VERNON, VA — The official start of fall is approaching, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate at the home of the first president.
George Washington's Mount Vernon will host various events this fall. There's something for everyone, from the popular returning Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour for adults to Trick or Treating for the children and Fall Harvest Festival for everyone.

George Washington Whiskey Tasting: Saturdays in September
Sample whiskey and other spirits, learn about how spirits are made using 18th century techniques and tour Washington’s Distillery and Gristmill. All bottles are discounted 20 percent in September, which marks Virginia Spirits Month.

Colonial Market and Fair: Sept. 17-18
Step back in time to enjoy food and wares by colonial artisans, theatrical entertainment, live music and demonstrations. The event is included with Mount Vernon admission.
Luke Adams Glass Art Signing: Sept. 17
Renowned Massachusetts glassblower Luke Adams returns to Mount Vernon to sign handblown glass pumpkins and other unique pieces.
"Lincoln and the Fight for Peace" Book Event: Sept. 21
Meet CNN Senior Political Analyst John Avalon as he discusses and signs his new book. The book focuses on President Abraham Lincoln’s plan for peace after the Civil War and how George Washington inspired him. Read more here.
Historic Plant and Garden Sale: Oct. 1
Shop annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs grown in Mount Vernon greenhouses.
Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour: Oct. 7-9
This popular event after Mount Vernon hours features unlimited wine samples from Virginia wineries for guests to enjoy on the East Lawn overlooking the Potomac River. Guests can bring a blanket to the East Lawn, visit the Mansion and meet George and Martha Washington.
Slave Memorial Commemoration: Oct. 8
Mount Vernon and the Black Women United for Action will hold a wreath laying ceremony to remember the enslaved people who lived and worked at Mount Vernon.
Fall Harvest Festival: Oct. 22-23
Meet General Washington and celebrate fall with 18th-century activities and demonstrations like candle making, cooking, horseshoeing and textile production and beer tasting.
Bread Baking: Oct. 27-30.
Culinary historian Justin Cherry will demonstrate the 18th-century baking process. and fresh bread will be available for sale.
Trick or Treating: Oct. 29.
Bring the children to greet General Washington and collect candy, enjoy a puppet show, music, magic and a costume parade.
