Huntington-Hybla Valley Among Top VA Millennial Zip Codes

A new analysis ranked zip codes with the greatest millennial population gains over five years.

HUNTINGTON, VA—Millennials, on the verge of becoming the largest adult age group, tend to flock toward more urban areas where there are plentiful jobs. New research shows just exactly where they're moving to.

Rent Cafe, an apartment search website, ranked the top trending zip codes for millennials based on the increase in population over five years, share, and overall number of renters in the millennial age group. The numbers are based on U.S. Census data from 2011 and 2016. Millennials are defined by Pew Research Center as those between ages 22 and 36.

In Virginia, Huntington (22303) and Groveton-Hybla Valley (22306) were ranked the fourth and sixth trending millennial zip codes, respectively. Huntington saw an 21.4 percent increase in the millennial population over five years, compared to 15.4 percent for Groveton and Hybla Valley.

The top zip codes indicate millennials prefer to live in downtown areas or near downtown. Millennials' top Virginia destination is the 23230 zip code of Richmond with a whopping 43.4 percent population jump.
