Input Sought On Route 1 Bus Rapid Transit Preliminary Design
Fairfax County's transportation department released the preliminary design and will host a community meeting Wednesday.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Fairfax County's transportation department will host a community meeting Wednesday after releasing preliminary design for the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit.
The Bus Rapid Transit system being planned by the county will be a bus system with stops along the Richmond Highway (Route 1) corridor between the Huntington Metro and Fort Belvoir. Bus Rapid Transit along Richmond Highway was recommended in a Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation study. The project, currently in the design phase, seeks to boost transit ridership in the region and ultimately lead to a Metro Yellow Line extension to Hybla Valley.
The first section of the BRT system will run on North Kings Highway from the Huntington Metrorail Station to Richmond Highway, then along Richmond Highway to Gum Springs. The second section will run along Richmond Highway from Gum Springs to Fort Belvoir. Stations will include Penn Daw Station, Huntington Station, Lockheed Station, Beacon Hill Station, Gum Springs Station, Hybla Valley Station, South County Station, Woodlawn Station and Fort Belvoir Station.
