Lightning Strike Ignites Blaze at Beacon Hill Road Home
Lightning strike to roof causes fire; damages estimated at $70,000, according to fire department.

Firefighters from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire Thursday at approximately 5:50 p.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 2509 Beacon Hill Road.
According fire investigators, the fire was accidental, caused by a lightning strike to the roof that started a fire. The entire region had been under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from the National Weather Service.
Firefighters found smoke and fire coming from the attic in the rear of the ranch-style home when they arrived. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the attic area. No one was home when the fire broke out. There were no injuries and no one was displaced.
