Live Cockroaches: Greater Alexandria Restaurant Violations

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from recent inspections in late June. Among the violations were live cockroaches at Great American Steak & Buffet.

violations: Employees not washing hands after switching between raw and cooked food, raw and cooked chicken placed on same table without sanitizing in between

Dilly's Restaurant: 7708-A Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA 22150, last inspection: June 16

violations: food stored on/near floor, food not dated or discarded within 24 hours, residential pesticides stored in the facility

Great American Steak & Buffet: 5902 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22303, last inspection: June 26

violations: floor damages causing water to collect in kitchen, grease buildup in barrels outside, live cockroaches and fruit flies observed

Kumo Asian Bistro: 7025-F Manchester Blvd., Alexandria, VA 22315, last inspection: June 27 (follow up)

violations: food stored on the floor; corrected: prep cooler not operating properly, manufacture containers reused
