Man Dies Of Injuries After Fight In Groveton: Police

Police are still investigating the details of the altercation. No one has been charged.

GROVETON, VA—Fairfax County Police say a man died of his injuries Wednesday, days after a fight near an apartment building in Groveton.

The altercation happened Feb. 21 in the 6600 block of Tower Drive near the Beacon Hill Apartments. Police responded to a report of an unresponsive man. The victim, later identified as Matthew Watson, 36, of Alexandria was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The medical examiner has performed an autopsy but has not announced the cause and manner of death.

Detectives have identified the other person involved in the fight. Police believe the person was acquainted with Watson.

He has not been identified or charged, as the circumstances of the altercation are under investigation. Charges are dependent on further investigation and consultation with the Commonwealth's Attorney.
