FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Police are investigating the Tuesday death of a man arrested in the Mount Vernon Police District weeks earlier.

Todd Matthew Gleason, 51, died at the hospital Tuesday after being taken there from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The day before, Gleason reported stomach and leg pain, and a magistrate released Gleason from custody as he went to the hospital.

Gleason had been arrested on June 17 by patrol officers in the Mount Vernon Police District, which covers the greater Richmond Highway corridor. The arrest was due to outstanding warrants on charges of petit larceny and failure to appear in court.

Fairfax County Police say use of force was not used during the arrest, but Gleason requested to go to a hospital for a pre-existing injury. Gleason went to the hospital and was medically cleared before being taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Fairfax County Police continue to investigate the death. The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
