Police Investigating Homicide in Huntington Park

Passersby called 9-1-1 just after 7 a.m. Wednesday when they saw a body lying in the grass, police said.

Fairfax County Police on Wednesday are investigating what they are calling “an apparent homicide” in Huntington Park.

A middle-aged man was found dead Wednesday morning after residents walking in the area saw the body lying on the grass at Huntington Park, according to police.

Someone called 9-1-1 at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday to report the body in the park, police said.

Police have not identified the victim. They said he suffered “apparent wounds and significant trauma to the upper body.”

Officers from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Mount Vernon District Police Station are investigating the scene at the park, located at Liberty Drive and Arlington Terrace in the Huntington area of the county, just south of Old Town Alexandria.

Additional police resources were also used in the investigation Wednesday, including the Bloodhound and helicopter.

Huntington Park is closed due the ongoing investigation.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death and the investigation is ongoing.
