FORT HUNT, VA — A fundraiser is supporting the family of a man who died in a Fort Hunt construction accident on Friday, Dec. 18.
The accident happened before 12:30 p.m.at a construction site outside a home in the 800 block of Emerald Drive. Officers and rescue personnel responded to a trench wall collapse on two men. One man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other man, Jonathan Spencer Canales, 30, of Maryland, died at the scene.
Detectives' investigations determined the men were working in a plumbing trench about 6 feet deep with some shoring in place. The wall collapsed when the men were working to shore another part of the trench.
