Man Shot By Security Guard Near Mount Vernon Charged
The man was armed with a knife when shot by a security guard near Mount Vernon last month.

MOUNT VERNON, VA—The knife-wielding man shot by a security guard last month at a community center near Mount Vernon is now facing an assault charge.
Investigations reveal the suspect approached a security guard with a knife outside Gum Springs Community Center in the 8100 block of Fordson Road on Sept. 14. The security guard initially came over to him at at an adjacent baseball field and asked him to secure his two dogs, concerned that a nearby daycare was about to release children.
The man took the dogs into his car and returned with the knife, Fairfax County Police say. The security guard felt threatened and shot the man one time.

The man drove off, and the security guard relayed the car tag information to police. Police located the the suspect lying on the ground near a house at Joseph Makell Court. He was taken to the hospital with injuries.
Jamon Downing, 37, has been charged with assault. The security guard faces no charges.
