Woman Charged With Murdering Uncle In Mount Vernon: Police

Fairfax County Police have a woman in custody after a stabbing in Mount Vernon.

MOUNT VERNON, VA—A woman is in custody after stabbing her uncle Monday morning in Mount Vernon, Fairfax County Police say.

Police responded to the 8000 block of Steadman Street for an argument between the two before 11 a.m. Police say the victim's niece stabbed him in the upper body. The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Courtney Southern, 38, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The niece, Chardnay Southern, 22, was taken into custody after the stabbing and was charged with murder.

A motive for the stabbing is unclear. Police say the two lived together with other relatives. No one else was involved in the incident.
