Mold On Soda Nozzles: Alexandria Area Restaurant Inspections (ICYMI)

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.
“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.
Here are some of the violations from recent inspections in late May. Among the violations were dead and live cockroaches found in food and prep areas at Pema's. The violations will result in a follow up inspection.

Reports are typically posted five to seven days after the inspections. Full reports are available on the health department’s website. Click on the violations to see each restaurant's results.

violations: wet wiping cloths stored on counter, General Tso chicken not properly cooled, garlic and oil mixture observed cold holding at improper temperature, dirty utensils, grime and debris buildups on gaskets of food prep coolers, fryers in need of cleaning, degreasing

violations: manufacture containers reused to store utensils, Coke machine ice chute observed with black mold

violations: employee did not wash hands before putting on gloves, dirty utensils used to make smoothies, ice chute and soda nozzles in need of cleaning, shelving with accumulations of grime and debris, floor in need of cleaning

violations: cooked pasta, ground beef observed cold holding at improper temperatures, various areas with accumulation of debris, dead cockroaches in egg wash, meatball container, live cockroaches in prep cooler, under grill and under handwashing sink
