Mount Vernon Up For 10Best Historic Home Tour In USA Today

MOUNT VERNON, VA — As George Washington's Mount Vernon gears up for the holiday season, it is up for a national readers' choice award from USA Today.

Mount Vernon is one of the nominees for 2020 Best Holiday Historic Home Tour. It's among the likes of Elvis Presley's Graceland in Memphis, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello in Charlottesville and the Biltmore estate built in Asheville, North Carolina for George Vanderbilt. Nominees were chosen by USA Today's 10Best Local Experts around the U.S.

George Washington's estate typically holds a variety of holiday events starting in late November through December. Along with special holiday tours, highlights include the seasonal visit of Aladdin the camel, Winter Glow and Christmas Illuminations fireworks synchronized to holiday music.

Readers will choose the "10Best" through voting. Anyone can vote one time per day through Dec. 7. A leaderboard shows which places are in the lead. The 10 winners will be announced on Dec. 18.
