MOUNT VERNON, VA — The boat fire at the Mount Vernon Yacht Club was traced back to the engine, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There were two people taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries during the May 4 fire, but there were no firefighter injuries. The boat was considered a total loss, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.

Fire units responded to the 4800 block of Tarpon Lane around 7:16 p.m. on Thursday, May 4. A boat at the docks was found with heavy fire showing. DC and Fairfax County fire boats tackled the fire while grounds crews stopped the fire from spreading to other boats.
