Highlights from Nominations for Mr. Meier for WCA Citizen of the Year:
- Mr. Meier was the foundation and pillar of our education community in Waynewood for 11 years. He saw to the K-6th grade education of countless kids in Waynewood. His administrative philosophy was simple, always come back to the children. He spent every day making it the best day for the kids at school. He made it a point to visit each classroom every day and knew practically every child by name. He was visible to the kids and that made him approachable. He sat with them in their worries and he celebrated with them in their victories. He was compassionate but firm, understanding but exacting.
- He went above and beyond typical principal duties. He could be found every single school day - rain or shine - helping kids cross the street at Waynewood Blvd. and Conover St. Mr. Meier spent almost every morning and every afternoon on that corner assuring the safe crossing of the children before and after school. He was not only visible to the children and their parents, but to the community as well. He helped foster the feeling of safety and community by being on that corner.
- He was a role model of what a truly good citizen does. Mr. Meier drove 30 miles each way to spend every day with students, parents, and staff in Waynewood to make our lives better. He is an amazing man who embodies everything good in citizenship.
- He also paid special attention to children who were experiencing hardships, whether death, deployment, or sickness, he rallied the idea of solidarity and encouragement not only amongst the staff but the students as well.
- He has set the bar for the treatment of every student. He has shown them the value of respect, love, friendship, learning, and humility. Because of this gracious man, a generation of young people will grow up with the values we all strive to achieve as a community. And they will get to say they learned them in Waynewood.
