New Cable Startup Launches Internet Service

Last year Layer3 became the first new D.C. area cable provider in over a decade. Now it is introducing internet.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The Denver-based startup Layer3 TV, whose 2016 launch gave the D.C. area its first new cable TV service provider in over a decade, is now offering internet. The company announced Tuesday its 100 Mbps pureFiber internet, which offers unlimited data. Customers can bundle the fiber-optic network service with the high-definition television.

The internet starts at $50 a month bundled with television and $69 alone. The unbundled TV service starts at $85.

Unlike the area's cable giants, Layer3 opted to offer one download speed at one price. "We just decided to come with a great, full-blown broadband product right out of the box instead of playing games with pricing, tiers and services," Layer3 CEO Jeff Binder told Patch. "Consumers are really tired of that. You want an unlimited product, you want enough bandwidth to do everything you want to do and you don't want to overpay."
