Wegmans, Aldi: New Year’s Grocery Store Hours In Northern VA, DC

VIRGINIA — While New Year’s Day doesn’t carry the typical culinary fanfare often boasted by Thanksgiving and Christmas, many people might be going the extra mile this year to say goodbye to 2020 and ring in what they hope will be a better year to come.

Whether you’re planning a Zoom soirée with friends and need extra orange juice for mimosas, or throwing together a tasty New Year’s Day lunch with the family, many grocery stores in Northern Virginia, the Fredericksburg area and DC will be open for the ingredients and snacks you may have forgotten.

A few stores will be closed on New Year's Day. It's best to call ahead or check your local store's hours online before heading out.

Here are the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day hours for the grocery stores in our town:

ALDI: Most locations will operate on reduced hours Dec. 31 and will close New Year’s Day. Check locations online for hours.

BJ’s Wholesale Club: Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 31, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Day.

Costco: Open with reduced hours on Dec. 31. Closed New Year’s Day.

CVS: Open regular hours New Year’s Day, but some stores may have reduced hours. Call ahead to confirm hours.

Food Lion: Most Food Lion stores are open New Year’s Day. Call ahead to confirm hours.

The Fresh Market: Stores will close at be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Giant Food: Most stores will close at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and reopen at 6 a.m. New Year’s Day.

Harris Teeter: Locations are open regular hours Dec. 31 and New Year’s Day.

Lidl: Most stores are open with holiday hours on Dec. 31 and are closed on New Year’s Day.

MOM’s My Organic Market: Stores are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 31, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Day.

Publix: Open New Year’s Day. Hours will vary by location, with most stores closing between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Rite Aid: Most stores are open Dec. 31 and New Year’s Eve, though some stores may be operating on limited hours. Call ahead to confirm.

Safeway: Many stores will close at 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve and be open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year's Day.

Sam’s Club: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 31. Closed New Year’s Day.
