One Of DC Region's First Babies Of 2023 Born At Fort Belvoir Hospital

A girl born in the first hour of 2023 at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital was among the DC region's first New Year's babies.

FORT BELVOIR, VA — It didn't take long after midnight on New Year's for Fort Belvoir Community Hospital to welcome its first baby of 2023.

The hospital's first baby, a girl named Jerrise Jenesis Majesty Smith, was born at 12:26 a.m. She was born to Air Force Tech. Sgt. Kerry Smith and his wife, Jerrise Smith. The infant is 5 pounds, 10 ounces and 20 inches long.

"What a wonderful way to start this new year by welcoming this baby girl into the world. Meeting this family is truly a joy, and presenting them with our First Baby gift basket is the perfect way to start 2023!" said Col. Kathy Spangler, director of Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in a social media statement. "We are so happy for the Smith Family and little Jerrise Jenesis Majesty."

The baby is the first of a likely many at the hospital in 2023. Last year, 1,006 babies were born at the hospital, which military members and their families.

While Jerrise Jenesis Majesty Smith was one of the region's first babies in the new year, the first was believed to be at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. Lael, a boy, was born at 12:03 a.m. to Brenda and Reynauld Sabuni, according to WTOP.
