Pedestrian Dies In Richmond Highway Crash In Fort Belvoir
Fairfax County's 10th pedestrian death of the year happened Wednesday night on Richmond Highway.
FORT BELVOIR, VA — A pedestrian died in a crash on Richmond Highway in the Fort Belvoir area, according to Fairfax County Police. This was the county's 10th pedestrian fatality in 2021, compared to 11 at this point of 2020.
The crash happened on Richmond Highway just south of the Pohick Road intersection. Preliminary investigations show the pedestrian was crossing Richmond Highway from west to east and was not using a crosswalk. A 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver heading north on Richmond Highway struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and died of his injuries. He was identified as Ray Edwin Roby, 65, of Fort Belvoir.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors for the driver. Police have not yet determined if alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian. Detectives are actively investigating and will present results to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.
