Pedestrian Dies In Richmond Highway Crash In Groveton: Police

Fairfax County's second pedestrian death of 2023 happened Thursday night on Richmond Highway, according to police.

GROVETON, VA — A pedestrian died in a Richmond Highway crash Thursday night, marking Fairfax County's second pedestrian death in 2023.

The crash happened around 9:22 p.m. Thursday at Richmond Highway and Clayborne Avenue. According to police, a 2007 Mercedes C230 heading south on Richmond Highway struck a northbound 2017 Jeep Wrangler attempting a left turn onto Clayborne Avenue. The Mercedes left the roadway and spun around before striking a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

The pedestrian, identified as Samantha Jennings-Jones, 36, of Alexandria, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The investigation results will be presented to the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for review of potential charges.

The crash is Fairfax County's second of the year, compared to five at this time in 2022.
