Pedestrian Killed In Crash On Richmond Highway: Police

Fairfax County Police say the crash caused the first pedestrian fatality of the year in the county.

BELLE HAVEN, VA — A pedestrian was killed after a vehicle hit her on Richmond Highway Thursday, according to Fairfax County Police. This was the first pedestrian fatality in Fairfax County this year.

Around 8 p.m., the pedestrian was crossing Richmond Highway near South Kings Highway when a southbound 2001 Toyota Corolla struck her. The victim was taken to the hospital and died of her injuries.

The pedestrian was identified as Peace Nana Asante, 51.

Police believe the pedestrian was outside the crosswalk when the crash happened. The driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with detectives. Alcohol is likely not a factor in the crash, but police have not determined if speed contributed to the crash.
