UPDATE: Police Identify Man Who Died in Shooting

UPDATE 5:20 p.m.: Detectives have identified the 22-year old man who died in the Hybla Valley shooting Wednesday night as Marquel L. Davis of Audubon Avenue, Fairfax County Police announced late Thursday.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, police said.

UPDATE 11 a.m.: Police have released new details Thursday morning about the fatal shooting that took place Wednesday night in Hybla Valley:

  • Police say the man who was shot and died at Inova Fairfax was 22 years old.
  • Another man, 27, remains hospitalized and is listed in non-life threatening condition.
  • A third man, 21, reported to the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital emergency room with gunshot wounds, shortly after the incident. Detectives believe he was also involved in the shooting.
  • Police say that those connected in the shooting are likely gang associates.

Police conducted an extensive search of the community, utilizing K-9 teams, Fairfax 1 (police helicopter), and patrol officers for several hours after the incident, police noted.

Preliminarily, detectives believe the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute inside the apartment and that there is no wider public safety threat to the community.

They are investigating the possibility that the shooting is related to the altercation in the home.

Charges are pending further investigation.

Fairfax County Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another two men in the hospital Wednesday night in the Hybla Valley area.

The shooting suspect is at large, according to police. Police said they are doing an extensive search of the area.


Police said two men were taken to the hospital and one self-reported to Mount Vernon Inova.

One man was pronounced dead at Fairfax Inova, according to police.

The shooting took place in the 7900 block of Audubon Ave. (see map below). Someone called police shortly after 10 p.m., police said.
