Police Release Findings Of Speed Study At Route 1 Location
Police analyzed the speed of drivers at a location on Richmond Highway.

HUNTINGTON, VA — Fairfax County Police announced results of a speed study at a location along Richmond Highway in the area of Huntington and Belle Haven.
The study recorded speeds on southbound Richmond Highway (Route 1) at Belleview Avenue for six days (Dec. 30 to Jan. 4) and northbound Richmond Highway at Quander Road for seven days (Dec. 22 to 28). At the Belleview Road intersection, the highest recorded speed was 86 mph. At the Quander Road intersection, the highest speed was 92 mph. The speed limit for both of these areas is 45 mph.
The data shows a high portion of drivers who were compliant with the speed limit. Drivers who were up to 10 mph above the speed limit were classified as inside the threshold; drivers above that number were considered violators. At the Belleview Road intersection, there was a small portion of drivers in each hour inside the threshold. The only hour with violators was 2 p.m. The average volume of traffic per day in this southbound area was estimated to be 9,344.7, while the average speed was 29.9 mph.

The average volume of traffic for this northbound area was estimated to be 11,609.9, and the average speed was 35.82 mph.
