Repaving Changes Proposed For Richmond Highway Corridor
Restriping plans are proposed for Lockheed Boulevard and Mount Vernon Highway in front of Mount Vernon High School.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Restriping plans have been proposed around Fairfax County, including in the Richmond Highway corridor during 2022 repaving.
The Virginia Department of Transportation repaves hundreds of Fairfax County roads each year. The Fairfax County Department of Transportation coordinates with VDOT during repaving and restriping to implement measures for traffic safety and enhanced transportation options. The 2022 paving work will take place between April and November. Exact dates will be available 10 days before work starts, and "no parking" signs will be posted.
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation will hold virtual meetings on its restriping proposals in April. Because the number of proposals are limited, the Mount Vernon and Lee Districts are grouped with the Springfield District.

In the Lee District, bike lanes are proposed on Lockheed Boulevard between Richmond Highway and the Huntley Meadows Park entrance "where feasible." The current roadway has one lane in each direction with turn lanes at Fordson Road and Richmond Highway. On-street parking would be maintained with the proposal. In areas with no shoulder, the median would be widened to improve safety for pedestrian crossings.
In the Mount Vernon District, changes are proposed for the wider portion of Mount Vernon Highway in front of Mount Vernon High School at Battersea Lane. In this area of Mount Vernon Highway, two, 11-foot travel lanes, a dedicated right-turn lane and left-turn lane into the school driveway are proposed. A striped median would be added at the crosswalk location.
