GROVETON, VA — Two people were displaced and no one was injured in an apartment fire Thursday in Groveton.
Crews from the Fairfax County and Alexandria fire departments responded to the three-story apartment building in the 7100 block of Mint Place around 3:16 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters found a fire in a first-floor apartment and extinguished it. One resident was rescued from a ground ladder but was not injured.
Investigators say the cause of the fire was an unattended cooking pot on the stove top. The apartment's smoke alarm was working and sounded after residents discovered the fire. The fire department estimated damages to be around $93,750.
