Richmond Highway Speed Study Recommendations To Be Announced
Recommendations on the Richmond Highway speed limit study are expected at an upcoming meeting by VDOT.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — A meeting to present recommendations on the Richmond Highway speed limit study is planned by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
VDOT will hold a virtual public meeting Wednesday, July 20 at 7 p.m. on the study assessing the 45 mph speed limit on Richmond Highway. The study will determine if the 45 mph speed limit is appropriate for the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers, and transit users. The study area is Richmond Highway between the Capital Beltway and Belvoir Road. A final report and study completion are expected in the fall.
Just last week, a pedestrian died after a crash on Richmond Highway near Huntington Avenue. The same week, a pedestrian was hit by multiple vehicles and killed on Richmond Highway near Interstate 95 in Lorton, which is outside of the VDOT's study area. Police did not initially believe speed had been a likely factor in the crashes.
