HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Sherwood Regional Library is marking a milestone anniversary with a community celebration Saturday, Oct. 16.
Back in 1971, Sherwood Regional Library became the 13th Fairfax County library. Now it is celebrating its 50th anniversary in and around Hybla Valley.
At the Oct. 5 Board of Supervisors meeting, Mount Vernon District Supervisor requested a proclamation to recognize Sherwood Regional Library's 50th anniversary. The proclamation will be presented during the celebration Saturday.

According to the proclamation, the Board of Supervisors purchased the property in 1964, and it was dedicated as a library in 1971. By 1989, the library became so popular, an expansion was sought for the 20,000-square-foot building. County voters approved an expansion project that added 16,400 square feet to the library. The newly renovated library was unveiled in 1992.
The library has served the needs of the community in various ways, from adapting library programming, technology and services to collaborating with neighborhood groups, other libraries, county agencies, and Richmond Highway service organizations. The library also hosts the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon Farmers Market on Wednesdays between April into December as well Mount Vernon at Home, an organization supporting seniors.
