Stolen Vehicle Strikes Vehicle Head-On During Fairfax County Pursuit: Police

According to state police, a vehicle being pursued by a state trooper crashed head-on into another vehicle on South Kings Highway.

GROVETON, VA — A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle on the interstates led to the stolen vehicle crashing head-on into another in Fairfax County Thursday night.

According to Virginia State Police, a state trooper on I-395 near Route 648 observed a northbound vehicle nearly strike another vehicle around 10:27 p.m. Thursday. When the trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop and the driver sped away, a pursuit started and continued onto I-495, police say.

During the pursuit, the state trooper learned Fairfax County Police were looking for the vehicle, which had been stolen. According to police, the suspect vehicle exited I-495 at Telegraph Road and rammed the trooper’s vehicle at one point during the pursuit.

As the suspect vehicle approached Telegraph Road on South Kings Highway, it struck the raised median, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle head-on, police say. The crash caused the suspect vehicle to overturn twice and end up on its side.

The driver of the struck vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The suspect vehicle's driver went to the hospital with serious injuries. The state trooper was not injured.

Charges are pending. The suspect's identity has not been released. State police continue to investigate the incident.
