Teen Charged In 2024 Fatal Hit And Run In Hybla Valley

Fairfax County police said the 16-year-old was driving a stolen car when the collision occurred.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Police have arrested a 16-year-old in connection with a 2024 hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 63-year-old Hybla Valley man.

According to Fairfax County police, the collision occurred on March 10, 2024, in Hybla Valley.

Police said the teen was driving a stolen 2015 Hyundai Sonata at a high rate of speed when it sideswiped an occupied vehicle near Tamarind Street and continued before crashing into a dumpster on Janna Lee Avenue. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene.

Police said a pedestrian, identified as James Johnson, was struck during the incident. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The teen was charged with manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and receiving stolen property. He remains in custody at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police did not identify the teen because they were charged as a juvenile.
