Tour De Mount Vernon Set For October 2021

MOUNT VERNON, VA — Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck will bring back the Tour de Mount Vernon for a sixth year on Saturday, Oct. 23.

The community bike ride offers a tour of the sights in the northern and central portions of the Mount Vernon District. A new incentive this year is a voucher for admission to George Washington's Mount Vernon for all riders and volunteers. The voucher may be used any time in 2021, and a mansion tour is included but must be scheduled.

The route will begin and end at Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House, 9000 Richmond Highway, Alexandria. Riders can choose to go the 41.1-mile route or the shortened 21.2-mile route. Highlights include Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House, a rest stop at Fort Hunt Park, Grist Mill, River Farm, Fort Belvoir, National Museum of the US Army, Gum Springs and the Mount Vernon Estate. Riders can start anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., and the ride will end between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. After riders finish, there will be music, food, beverages and other entertainment.

Registration is $25 per rider, with $5 of the fee going to the Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling. Riders receive Tour de Mount Vernon Socks with every registration.

The 6th annual Tour de Mount Vernon is dedicated to Dave Evans, a late friend of Stock who died in August 2020. Evans was president and co-founder of La Prima Food Group and was involved with the nonprofit United Community for 17 years.
