Woodlawn Area House Fire Displaces 2 People

There were no reported injuries from a Wednesday fire in Mount Vernon, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

WOODLAWN, VA — Two people were displaced and no one was injured in a Wednesday house fire in the Woodlawn area.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to the 8100 block of Orville Street around 6:39 p.m. Units encountered black smoke showing from all sides of the two-story single-family home. Crews worked to control and ultimately extinguish the fire without injury.

Two people had been home when the fire happened. The residents discovered the fire and evacuated before 911 was notified. Smoke alarms sounded after the residents discovered the fire.

Investigators say the fire was caused by an unspecified electrical event involving a table lamp's wiring. Damages were estimated to be $208,412.

Two people were displaced and declined Red Cross assistance.
