• Russell Layne murder trial begins more than 9 years after wife's death (wset.com) — Jury selection has begun in Halifax County for the trial of Russell Wayne Layne, charged with first-degree murder in the 2017 death of his wife, Emma Compton Layne. Her disappearance from Cody Store and later discovery in a wooded area led to a years-long investigation, with the trial now expected to last about eight days.
