15 Venues Offer Arts Experiences During First Fridays of the Valley July 3

Photography, watercolors, jazz, and dance are just some of the arts experiences being offered during First Fridays of the Valley this month.

HARRISONBURG, VA – Arts Council of the Valley (ACV) announces its July First Fridays of the Valley lineup, featuring a variety of visual and performing arts experiences at 15 venues throughout the City of Harrisonburg on July 3! The following First Fridays of the Valley venues plan to offer arts experiences Friday, July 3. Unless otherwise noted, events are free of charge and scheduled 5-7 pm.

  • Asbury United Methodist Church (205 S Main St) introduces Small Glimpses of Nature and Whimsey, an exhibition of watercolor paintings by Tracy Hakala. Stop in to admire the whimsical works and meet the artist during the opening reception. Refreshments will be available. asburydowntown.org
  • Community Counseling Center (96 Campbell St) highlights work by Rosie Clark; visit during the First Friday opening reception to connect with the center’s newest featured artwork and partake of light refreshments. hbccc.org
  • Court Square Theater (41-F Court Square) invites you to enjoy live, unscripted, improvisational theatre with the hilarious and talented actors and improv artists of Rocktown Improv.   • Frame Factory & Gallery (139 N Liberty St, Ste 101) debuts two new exhibitions with an opening reception: Ramblings, with acrylic and pastel works by Mae Stoll and Altars & Portals, with works in a variety of media by 35 local artists.   • Gaines Group Architects at the Depot (141 W Bruce St, Ste 201) shares a new exhibition of photography by Erin Harrigan: Where The Mountains Meet The Stars.   • Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative (2 N Main St) invites your visit to a First Friday-exclusive Open Dance Rehearsal from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Take a look behind the scenes and observe an open dance rehearsal by Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative dancers, learning about all that goes into building a dance performance. hburgdancecoop.org/
  • Horizon Gifts and Board Games (60 W Market St) exhibits Kaitlyn Gramling’s mixed media artwork throughout July, kicking off with an opening reception complete with refreshments and time to chat with the artist. horizongiftsandgames.square.site
  • Hotel Madison & Shenandoah Valley Conference Center (710 S Main St) opens Watercolor and Wax, an exhibition of both watercolor and wax paintings by Juliette Swenson and Kathy Belcher. Have a look around the new works in the mezzanine gallery and meet the artists from 5 to 7 pm; then, from 6 to 8 pm, enjoy live music in the hotel lobby from vocalist & guitarist Ebony Nicole (playing folk & rock classics as well as original songs).
