Harrisonburg police investigating brandishing incident at party (whsv.com) — Harrisonburg police are asking for tips after a man reportedly brandished an assault-style rifle at a party on South Main Street between Port Republic Road and South Avenue late on August 23. Investigators describe a shorter, skinny white man with a mop-style haircut and goatee who twice visited the party before revealing the weapon and leaving on foot. Information can be shared anonymously and may qualify for a Crime Solvers reward.

2. Juvenile girl from Rockingham County arrested for allegedly stabbing family member (whsv.com) — Emergency crews from both Rockingham County and Harrisonburg responded after a woman was seriously injured in an alleged stabbing during a domestic incident in the Massanetta Springs area. The 43-year-old victim was flown to UVA Hospital and is now in stable condition, while a juvenile family member has been arrested on a malicious wounding charge and is being held without bond.

3. McGaheysville mom builds a village of mutual support (wvtf.org) — A McGaheysville mom has built "The Village," a fast-growing Facebook group and donation network that's helping mothers across the Valley, including Harrisonburg parents, share baby gear and emotional support. Her backyard shed now serves as a free supply hub, and she's working with a social worker to launch MANNA as a nonprofit and secure a permanent space for events and donations.

4. Virginia breaks ground on expansion projects at regional animal health laboratories (augustafreepress.com) — Harrisonburg's Regional Animal Health Laboratory is getting expanded space and upgraded testing capabilities as part of a $13.1 million statewide project. State agriculture officials say the investment will boost disease monitoring, food safety testing, and public health protections that support local veterinarians, farmers, pet owners, and rural communities throughout the Shenandoah Valley.
