• Early voting in Virginia begins for 2026 midterms (whsv.com) — Early in-person voting for the 2026 general election is now underway at the Rockingham County Administration Building in Harrisonburg, giving local residents weekday access and some extended October hours. Voters can also use a secure ballot drop box on-site, and several residents say they prefer voting early to avoid Election Day crowds and scheduling conflicts.
   

• Third annual day of service brings together more than 250 volunteers (whsv.com) — In Harrisonburg, volunteers spent the Day of Service painting a Habitat for Humanity shed and assembling gift packages for children receiving cancer treatment at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Their efforts were part of 16 JustServe projects across Charlottesville and the Shenandoah Valley, bringing more than 250 people together to support nonprofits, nursing home residents, and inclusive summer camp programs.
   

• Shenandoah National Park will begin installing automated entry stations this fall (whsv.com) — Harrisonburg-area visitors to Shenandoah National Park will soon see new automated entry stations at all four park entrances, allowing credit or debit card payment when booths aren't staffed. Existing pass holders will be able to scan barcodes for access, and rangers will gain new remote controls to close Skyline Drive quickly when conditions turn dangerous.
