Local Man Arrested for May 17 Reston Shooting

Police and U.S. marshals apprehended a Herndon-area man on Wednesday afternoon on charges that he was involved in a May 17 robbery and shooting in Reston.

Warrants for robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony were obtained for Jalan Merrill, 21, the Fairfax County Police Department said. Merrill was taken into custody in Leesburg with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and he’ll be transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

One man died in the May 17 incident, and the investigation is continuing, the police said.

Police identified the dead man as Rashad Kejuan Daye, 24, of the Herndon area. He was one of five visitors to the apartment in the 11600 block of Stoneview Square when a robbery attempt triggered an altercation and shooting.

Two other men were charged with attempted robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony: Eddie Rodriquez, 22, of Woodbridge and Dominique May, 18, of Reston. Both were still at large as of last week.

One other individual was wounded, and another was taken into custody. The homeowner was not hurt, police said.
