New York Man Dies in Route 7 Wreck Near Herndon
Fairfax County police: Speed, alcohol may be factors in crash.

A New York City man died Tuesday after suffering serious injuries in a traffic accident over the weekend on Leesburg Pike (Route 7), according to Fairfax County police.
Devon Martin, 29, was a passenger in the front seat of a car that struck the rear of a truck that had slowed down on Route 7 to make a left turn, police said. The collision occurred early Sunday near the intersection with Reston Avenue, in the Dranesville area north of Herndon.

Martin was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Speed and alcohol are being considered as potential factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, police said.

Police were called to the scene of the collision at about 3:25 a.m. Sunday. The two vehicles had been moving westbound in the left lane of Route 7. The truck in front, a 1989 Ford LTL 9000, began to slow to make a left turn.
The vehicle behind, a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to stop and struck the Ford in the rear, police said.
