Herndon Police Department Now Hiring A Cop

If you want to become a police officer in Herndon, now's your chance.

HERNDON, VA — Interested in becoming a police officer? The Town of Herndon is hiring.

A job posting on the town's website earlier this month indicates an opening for a full-time police officer. Compensation is $52,738 depending on qualifications.

According to the posting, the officer's responsibilities include:

  • Patrols areas of the town; prevents and discovers commission of crime; apprehends criminals and offenders; enforces traffic laws
  • responds to calls for service and complaints from citizens involving accidents, misdemeanors and felonies
  • conducts accident and criminal investigation; gathers evidence; interviews suspects and witnesses; writes reports; makes arrests as required; renders credible information as witness in court and other related police duties.

The successful applicant must be at least 21 and a U.S. citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent. He or she must also have a valid Virginia driver's license and a good driving record, and they must be willing to sign an agreement that prevents them from smoking on or off duty.
