Loudoun Police: Herndon Man Found Dead After Domestic Shooting

Loudoun County police are investigating the case of an attempted domestic-related homicide early Saturday in which the suspect, a Herndon man, appears to have taken his own life.

About 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Loudoun sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a burglary at a home in the 23000 block of Champe Ford Road near Middleburg. The victim’s estranged husband had entered the home and brandished a firearm, according to a police report.

After a brief struggle, the suspect fired one round, striking the victim. The victim was able to wrestle the gun away before she fired a round. The suspect then fled the scene, police said.

The deputies began searching for the suspect and contacted the Fairfax County Police Department, as the suspect had a residence in the Herndon area.

The suspect was found dead shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday by Fairfax County police in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Reston Parkway, according to the Loudoun police report, and his injuries appeared to be self-inflicted.

The other shooting victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Loudoun police said.
