97 New Jobs as Medical Device Company Makes $28 Million Deal

Leesburg will be base for global headquarters and research and development operations, according to Loudoun economic development officials.

Medical device company K2M Group Holdings announced Friday that it would be making a big investment in Leesburg and Loudoun County.

The company announced plans for a new 146,000 sq.ft. facility in Leesburg to house the company’s global headquarters and research and development operations, according to Virginia Economic Development Partnership.

K2M develops spine technologies used by surgeons. The $28 million facility will include creating 97 new jobs and retaining 268 jobs.

Governor Terry McAuliffe said securing K2M’s operations in Leesburg was a significant win for Virginia.

“Creating these high-tech jobs of the 21st century is key for building a new Virginia economy,” he said. “We are confident that this tremendous project will encourage the future growth and viability of K2M.”

The deal includes a $450,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund and a $400,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program. Additional funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

K2M has a 10-year history in Leesburg, said Leesburg Vice Mayor David S. Butler.

“Their employees are our neighbors,” he said. “This clean, progressive, charitable, medical device company will provide significant economic impact to Leesburg for the ultimate benefit of our residents while serving as a catalyst for future amenities in the Oaklawn Development.”
