LEESBURG, VA — A man who died in a motorcycle crash last weekend was a professional hockey player who attended Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Adam Comrie, 30, died at the scene of the crash on N. King Street.

Comrie, a defenseman, was drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2008 and then played for several professional teams in the U.S. and Canada. Most recently, he played for the Klagenfurt Red Jackets in Austria. When Comrie joined the Red Jackets in the summer of 2018, he quickly became a key player and crowd favorite, according to the team.

“In Adam Comrie, you are losing an open-hearted and humorous teammate who has put a smile on your face countless times over the past few years and has always been a good friend and teammate,” the Klagenfurt Red Jackets said in a news release. “The whole association feels wholeheartedly with Adam Comrie’s family during these difficult and tragic hours.”

Several of his former professional teammates expressed their condolences. Mike McKenna, who played with Comrie on the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League, said they had kept in touch since playing together in Syracuse.

"Hockey never defined him despite being a very talented player. I admired that about Adam. 30 years young. Too soon," McKenna wrote in a tweet.
