LEESBURG, VA — Tech giant Microsoft has submitted the first applications to start building data centers on 332 acres in Leesburg. According to a report, the filings indicate the first phase of the project will include two data centers, which represent 40 jobs, 250,000 square feet, and a $200 million investment.

Microsoft purchased a majority of Compass Creek, a development located between the Dulles Greenway and Leesburg Executive Airport, the Washington Business Journal reported. The site is partially in the town of Leesburg and partially in Loudoun County.

The site was sold to Microsoft for $73 million by Peterson Cos. The remaining land still owned by Peterson will likely be developed into a mix of uses including an Ion International Training Center, a Walmart, an At Home store and other retail.
