Sgt Maj John Champe Compatriot Memorializes Patriots who fell during the Battle of Lexington and Concord
The Great Falls Freedom Memorial hosted the Commemoration of the fallen Memorial Day at the Great Falls Grange Hall
On Memorial Day, Great Falls Freedom Memorial members hosted a presentation by Sgt Maj John Champe Compatriot Mike Watson on the opening battle of the Revolution at Lexington and Concord. The "Shot heard around the World" started open warfare between Great Britain and American patriots. The opening battle saw eight patriots killed and many more wounded.
As Mike Watson read the names of the first eight patriots killed in the Revolution, Mrs. Sara Hilgartner rang her husbands Marine Corps bell to honor each patriot. After the eight names were read, she rang the bell to commemorate all Patriots who fell during the Revolution and all veterans who fell in wars since the Revolution.
The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter's eighty-four members serve Loudoun County and parts of surrounding counties. The Chapter was selected as the best medium sized chapter in Virginia for 2025.
