Sgt Maj John Champe SAR took a float to Franklin Regional Park near Purcellville
The Float was used as a patriotic display with Liberty bell and Declaration of Independence to sign
Franklin Regional Park near Purcellville sponsored an evening celebration of the Nation’s 250th Birthday with food trucks, vendors, displays, and ending with a fireworks display. The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter Virginia SAR took a 22’ patriotic float with 1/3 size Liberty Bell, small Statue of Liberty, patriotic graphics, and four face cutouts of Rev War era figures. The cutouts included:Revolutionary War Continental Army Soldier, Drummer boy, colonial girl and colonial woman. A desk was placed under a canopy with a table where the chapter had multiple handouts for visitors. Handouts included small rolled parchment Declarations of Independence, miniature U.S. Flags, logo’d poker chips, playing cards-each with a different Revolutionary War person, place or event, and Patriotic rubber ducks. The desk had a large format Declaration of Independence and quill pens.SMJC men in Militia attire encouraged visitors to sign the Declaration.
By the end of the evening visitors had filled the signature space for the Declaration of Independence.The signed copy was given to the event sponsor. SMJC Compatriots Warner Workman, Mark Sink, and Mark Sink represented the chapter.
